'1m Brits to sell car' amid rising fuel costs

14.07.2008

Over one million Britons are planning to sell their cars as a result of rising fuel costs, according to the Abbey.

The survey found 86 per cent of people are taking measures of some kind to combat rising inflation.

In addition, the study suggested over half of Britons are buying fewer non-essential items such as CDs, DVDs and clothes.

Director of Abbey Mortgages Phil Cliff commented "it's clear that belts are tightening all across Britain".

He added: "Careful financial planning and budgeting can help combat the effects of rising inflation, and everyone should ensure that they are shopping around for the best financial products."

Last week, head of savings at Sainsbury's Finance Helen Cook advised consumers to shop around for the best savings account to suit their own individual needs.

She said people should consider whether they will be likely to shift their money across different savings accounts to get the best rates, as savers sometimes intend to do this but do not get around to it.
