Multi-car households can make major savings by choosing to take out a single car insurance policy for all the vehicles, according to a leading insurer.

Admiral offers to cover up to five cars at a single address under its MultiCar product and managing director Sue Longthorn believes such policies will become increasingly popular in the coming years.

She explained that the cost of buying a house has risen to such an extent that many young adults have little choice but to continue living in the family home.

"They value the freedom their own car provides, so you end up with Mum, Dad and one or more of their kids all driving their own cars," said Ms Longthorn.

Opting for a single policy for all those vehicles can be a good way of securing discounts, she added, as well as cutting down on the amount of time spent dealing with car insurance renewals.

Families may be particularly keen to sort out adequate cover at this time of year, as the combination of low temperatures and longer hours of darkness leads to an increase in the number of accidents and motor insurance claims.ADNFCR-1717-ID-18949945-ADNFCR
