Car insurance 'increasing in cost'

15.07.2008

Car insurance premium costs have resumed an upward trend, it has been reported.

The average comprehensive car insurance premium increased by £20 in the previous quarter, according to the AA.

It said the average comprehensive car insurance quote now stands at over £700.

Director of AA Insurance Simon Douglas referred to "spiralling" insurance costs, adding: "While the number of casualties on Britain's roads is falling, the cost of accidents is rising and young drivers are taking an increasing share of the toll."

He said that he expects insurance premiums to continue increasing in price.

Separate research revealed today by Consumer Intelligence suggests motorists are increasingly looking to shop around for the best car insurance deal in an attempt to combat rising prices.

It found 25.8 per cent of people plan to renew policies with their existing providers - down from 29 per cent at the same time last year.
