Holiday credit card charges 'top holiday moan'
8.08.2008
Hidden charges involved in using credit cards while abroad have been named as one of Britons' top holiday irritations.
Along with 'unreasonable' hidden credit card costs, the research from the Post Office revealed six of the ten top holiday peeves were to do with complaints over prices.
Other of the problems experienced were the cost of exchanging money, the pressure to leave tips and the belief that shopkeepers charge tourists more.
Helen Warburton, Post Office head of travel, explained: "Our research showed that UK tourists are particularly irritated by the high charges for using mobile phones abroad and for using credit and debit cards to get cash abroad or make purchases."
She advised tourists to cut down on mobile phone usage and to ensure they withdraw their holiday money before arrival in the destination.
Ms Warburton also advised choosing a cheap credit card deal with no commission, as many cards will charge 2.75 per cent.
The Scotsman has reported that many people travelling to the continent have experienced problems using their card there because of security fears.
