'Most Britons' consider returning to work after retirement
18.07.2008
More than half of Britons of retirement age are considering returning to work after their retirement, according to new research.
Nearly a third of people expect to go back into employment for financial reasons, the survey from Zurich suggests.
However, 52 per cent of Britons believe they will be able to go on holiday at least twice a year.
Tony Solomon, business development director at Zurich UK Life, says: "Whilst it is encouraging to see that people intend to lead such an active retirement, there is [a] real need to alert people to the importance of planning for their retirement from an early age."
He warned that unless the issue is addressed, those who have already completed their working life could be the last generation to enjoy a carefree retirement.
Earlier this month, a survey from the Post Office suggested almost half of over-50s are using credit cards for everyday purchases.
It found less than a third of people in the same age group are unable to place money into a savings account on a regular basis.
