Kids cause home damage 'worth £229m each year'

18.07.2008

Young children cause damage to household possessions worth around £229 million each year, new research suggests.

Teenagers were found to be involved in 250,000 accidents in the last year, accounting for £68 million worth of damage, according to the survey from Tesco Personal Finance.

Due to the scale of the financial losses, the company urges consumers to make sure they take out adequate home insurance.

Paul Baxter of Tescocompare.com comments that four in ten people do not have cover for domestic accidents.

He adds: "As the saying goes, accidents do happen - and this research suggests many of us suffer financial losses on an annual basis."

Halifax Home Insurance recently advised homeowners to ensure they have sufficient cover for hi-tech gadgets such as the iPhone and Nintendo Wii.

The company also said it is vital that home insurance providers continue to adapt their products to keep up with the latest trends in home technology.
