Motorists urged to switch to LPG
27.08.2008
Car loan customers may be among those able to benefit from switching to liquid petroleum gas (LPG).
According to the Daily Mail, motorists can make significant cost savings by converting to this type of fuel.
LPG currently costs an average of 60p a litre, compared with £1.12 per litre for petrol, the newspaper noted.
Spokeswoman for UK LPG Lisa Thomson told the Mail that the fuel is becoming "far more popular" with motorists as petrol prices continue to rise.
"At present there are 150,000 LPG vehicles on the road, but over the past six months we have seen 14,000 conversions - that is more than we usually get in a year," she remarked.
However, converting an existing vehicle to run on LPG can cost a minimum of £1,300, so it can take several years for motorists, such as car loan customers, to reap the benefits.
In related news, esure recently reported that a fifth a drivers surveyed said they would be willing to pay more than £2 a litre of petrol to continue using their cars.
