Mortgages under 6% on offer

8.08.2008

The best mortgage deals have now fallen below six per cent, it has been reported.

According to Lorna Bourke, writing for CityWire, the lowest mortgage rate is now below six per cent at 5.98 per cent with ING Direct.

This mortgage offers a two-year fixed rate with loans up to 75 per cent of the value of a property and with an arrangement fee of £999, the mortgage also has one of the lowest fees available.

Valuation and legal fees are paid for people taking out this mortgage.

Nationwide has reduced some of its rates by 0.25 per cent and Abbey has also made some reductions.

Melanie Bien from Savills has told Reuters that the Bank of England's decision to hold interest rates at five per cent is good news for homeowners.

This is because a boost to the housing sector would be unlikely to be caused by a reduction in rates because of the counter effects caused by rising inflation.
