Nine moneysaving tips for men
This week, as a special treat, I've done a round up of bargain buys for blokes. Read on to discover how you can save on gadgets, games, grub…And best of all beer!
After digging deep into the minds of men this week, I've come up with a whole host of fabulous deals and discounts to help spoil the boys for less.
1. Gadgets and gizmos
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy….Luckily, these four super websites are offering heaps of bargains for boys who love their toys.
My favourite site is Boysstuff.co.uk. You can browse by price, with plenty of items for under £15.
Check out The Brick, costing £8.95. Just imagine the look on your friends' faces when you pretend to throw this fake, foam brick at them!
Right now, there is a sale on at drinkstuff.co.uk. You can pick up a pack of six rocking whiskey glasses for just £15.98 - or why not set up your own bar at home with a pub spirit measure set for only £4.99.
Meanwhile, ebuyer.com is offering a selection of great deals and discounts on a range of computer equipment.
Scan.co.uk similarly has a range of offers in the clearance section of its website. Plus, if you're a member of the forums hexus.net and have a certain amount of posts you may qualify for free shipping.
2. Cheap DVDs
If you're feeling lazy this week, why not cabbage on the couch with one or two cut price DVDs.
In the Play.com autumn sale there is a super selection of DVDs from as little as £2.99.
Or you can check out Amazon's autumn offers and save up to 70%.
Meanwhile, Sendit.com is offering up to 80% off in their autumn price fall.
And the sale is now on at HMV, with boxsets from as little as £5 and DVDs from £3.
3. Great deals on games
For the gamers amongst us, The Hut's end of summer sale has up to 80% off thousands of CDs, DVDs and games for the Xbox 360 and PC.
Or surf ShopTo.net for a great selection of good deals on games. You can pick up the new release Batman: Arkham Asylum for the PlayStation 3 for just £34.85 - a whopping £15.14 less than the recommended retail price.
Plus right now at Play.com, you can save up to 30% off Xbox 360 accessories.
4. Brilliant broadband deals
Right now, with TalkTalk Essentials, you can bag yourself three months free broadband and a home phone package for just £6.49 a month (excluding a line rental charge of £11.25). The only catch is that you have to tie yourself in for a minimum contract length of 18 months.
On the other hand, existing O2 Broadband customers can also get three months free broadband for just £7.34 a month until the 31October. However if you're not an O2 customer you will pay £12.23 a month.
Or if you are the ultimate sports fan, why not grab a cold beer from the fridge and hook yourself up to SkySports for just £29.50 per month (plus a phone line charge of £11). You won't miss a kick!
If you want to find out more about how to cut your broadband costs, you can read my article 'Five ways to bag a better broadband deal.'
5. Bargain books
If you're a bit of a book worm, Waterstones is offering 3 for 2 on hundreds of books.
Or have a gander on Amazon and you could save up to 50% off thousands of paperbacks.
Meanwhile, WHSmith is offering up to half price on a great selection of books, so whether you like your crime and thrillers or history and politics, you're sorted!
6. Frugal fashion
If you want something new for your wardrobe…perhaps to impress the ladies…these super sales could make you some serious savings.
Burton is offering 50% off on selected lines, with T shirts from £5 and jeans from £15. Or if you sign up to its newsletter, you will receive 10% off your next online purchase. (The vouchers are valid for approximately two weeks from the date you register.)
TM Lewin has a whole host of discounts on men's suits, shirts and ties, such as 50% off suits, three ties for £60 and four shirts for £100!
At Debenhams you can bag 20% off selected footwear.
In the Barratts summer clearance, you can save 20% off selected shoes in the sale.
And in the 'sale for him' at Office, you can save up to 75% off selected footwear.
7. Bargain booze
If you're a fan of a tipple now and then, a quick look on MySupermarket.com revealed some brilliant boozey deals.
For me, Tesco came out top.
You can get 10 Tetleys beers for £7.08, 10 John Smiths Extra Smooth for £6, 20 bottles of Becks for £10 and 12 bottles of Sol for £6 until 6 October.
Meanwhile, if you're feeling a little sophisticated, Tesco also has a great selection of offers on bottles of red wine.
8. Eat out for less
Here are five of my favourite meal deals.
- 50% off your bill at Pizza Hut when you register and print your voucher. Offer is valid until Thursday 8 October.
- 2 for 1 on all main courses at Strada when you register and print your voucher. Offer is valid until Sunday 4 October.
- 2 for 1 on breakfast, lunch or dinner at Giraffe when you register and print your voucher. Offer is valid until Sunday 4 October.
- A starter, main and drink for just £10 at Prezzo when you register and print your voucher. Offer is valid until Sunday 4 October.
- Buy one meal and get another for only £1 at Zizzi when you register and print your voucher. Offer is valid until Sunday 11 October.
You can find out more about how to take the bite out of your bill in my article 'Five ways to eat out for less'.
9. Grow a beard!
Finally, why not save on the cost of razors and grow a beard.
If you think it costs around £10 for a pack of five Gillette M3 Power blades, you could save a tidy sum by foregoing your daily shave.
However, bear in mind that there is a big difference between designer stubble and scruffiness…
