Adventurers told to take out insurance

8.10.2008

People planning to take adventurous holidays in far-flung destinations ought to ensure they have adequate travel insurance, according to one firms.

American Express Insurance Services found that one in four people are planning to go on holiday without any form of travel insurance this year.

However, with many people embarking on adventure holidays, they could be placing themselves at risk, the company warned.

Chris Rolland, head of American Express Insurance Services, said: "If people are planning a holiday, particularly to a more exotic destination, they should ensure that their policy covers them for all the activities they are likely to carry out including some extreme sports."

It is always "better to be safe than sorry", he stated, urging people to check with their travel insurance provider.

A spokesperson for STA Travel recently said that travel insurance is the "wisest purchase" people can make if they are taking an adventure holiday or a gap year.
