Fuel savings 'to be spent on energy bills'
9.10.2008
Consumers in the UK may be breathing a sigh of relief at recent falls in the price of fuel, but drivers may be forced to use such savings in order to meet their energy costs, according to one expert.
Petrol prices have fallen by nearly ten pence since their peak a few months ago, the AA stated.
A spokesperson for the organisation said although recent petrol price reductions will "ease" the pressure on people's finances, higher domestic energy bills are likely to ensure they continue to feel the pinch.
"It may well be that having learnt how to reduce their fuel consumption, they will continue to keep a lower consumption, because every penny saved on car fuel can then go towards dealing with the rising price of gas and electricity," he commented.
Householders seeking to save on their energy bills were recently advised to ensure their homes are properly insulated.
Mike Malina, an energy efficiency specialist, explained that those on low incomes can get loft insulation fully funded by the government.
