Switch utilities providers, says firm

21.08.2008

Consumers in the UK can save substantial amounts of money by shopping around for better deals from utilities companies, it has been claimed.

According to a survey by Which?, 46 per cent of its members said they would be cutting back on spending over the next year.

However, in order to save more money during difficult financial conditions, the consumer magazine suggested reviewing household expenses.

By installing a water meter households can save £100, while switching to a new energy supplier can offer savings of approximately £233.

Further savings can be made by choosing a bundled broadband and landline deal, the publication noted.

Commenting on the findings, Jess Ross, editor of which.co.uk, said: "Difficult times call for extreme measures and it's clear that some people won't be splashing out on luxuries in the near future. People still want quality, but it's all about value for money."

Which? recently held an awards ceremony at the British Museum recognising the best consumer products and services available in the UK.

Among the winners were Mazda, Panasonic and Miele.
